PIPA INITIATIVE
OUR HISTORY
In 2019, four activists from Rio de Janeiro , who worked in collectives
and organizations from favelas and peripheral areas, identified in the favelas and peripheries
Brazil 's difficulty in accessing private social investment . This financing system, by operating based on structural inequalities of race, gender and class, creates a vacuum of opportunities for organizations and collectives that directly impact the most unequal communities in the country.
It is out of this urgency that the PIPA Initiative was born, out of the desire to be an effective bridge between funders and collectives, movements and organizations based in the favelas and peripheries, producing diagnoses, tools and actions so that these resources reach the Brazilian favelas and peripheries.
We understand that the current logic of allocating private social investment not only perpetuates structural inequalities of race, gender and class, but also contributes to the fact that peripheral people and groups capable of impacting the realities of their communities and territories do not have access to significant resources to carry out their work.
We believe that in order to achieve racial, gender, climate and social justice in the country, it is necessary to share resources and power with those who make an impact on a daily basis in the country's most unequal territories. We want to foster the next generations of movements, activists and organizations that will change Brazil's history.
MISSION
PIPA's main mission is to contribute to democratizing access to private social investment in Brazil, helping to build a world in which philanthropic and private resources are accessible to organizations, collectives and grassroots movements from the favelas and periphery, who are in the city, in the countryside, in the villages, in a broad and equitable way in terms of race, gender and class.
VISION
To transform philanthropy in Brazil from the favelas and peripheries with all their power and plurality.
STRATEGIC OBJECTIVES
-
Produce tools to connect Brazilian peripheral collectives and movements to private social investment and philanthropy around the world;
-
To influence and build partnerships with philanthropic organizations and private social investment, helping them to rethink their funding structures and practices;
-
Contribute to racializing and centralizing the debate and solutions on philanthropy and private social investment in Brazil in the peripheries.
